Gründe für BIOS-Updates- Typische Symptome

Spannend wie ein Krimi liest sich die Liste, die im vergangenen Jahr zusammengetragen wurde - sie zeigt anhand von über 100 Beispielen, warum Updates am Mainboard-BIOS durchgeführt wurden. Es handelt sich hier um Original-Herstellerkommentare, auf deren Übersetzung ich verzichtet habe: Es kommt eh nur auf zwei Worte an, die Produkte erkennst Du an ihrem Namen. "Fix” heißt "Problem behoben, jetzt funktioniert's” - weil es vorher nicht ging! 

Die Palette der Gründe, warum ein BIOS-Update erfolgte, reicht von banal bis katastrophal: Wenn die MHz-Anzeige am Gehäuse nicht stimmt oder das BIOS die Prozessortaktrate beim Hochfahren falsch anzeigt, dann wird das den gutgläubigen PC-Einsteiger zwar verwirren, solche Probleme sind allerdings noch eher "lustig”. Ernst wird es allerdings, wenn Festplatten durchdrehen. Ganz zu schweigen von den vielen ärgerlichen Stunden, die bei Hardwareinstallationsversuchen verlorengingen, weil die ganze Sache aufgrund von BIOS-Problemen überhaupt keine Chance hatte, ohne BIOS-Update überhaupt jemals zu funktionieren. Ja, diese Liste hat was. Vielleicht hat's auch bei Dir "geklingelt” - und Du hast jetzt eine Vorstellung davon, was in Deinem PC-System gerade schiefgelaufen ist. Besonders erschreckend: Diese Beispiel-Liste hat schon ein paar Jahre auf dem Buckel - doch auch im Jahr 2001 erfolgen BIOS-Updates noch aus den gleichen Gründen!

Jeder gute Mainboard-Hersteller MUSS auf seinen Support-Seiten klar mitteilen, warum ein BIOS-Update erfolgt ist und welche Fehler dabei beseitigt oder Dinge geändert wurden - das ist Deine erste Anlaufstelle. Und das größte Problem: Bei vielen Discounter-PCs ist es fast unmöglich rauszukriegen, wer überhaupt der Mainboard-Hersteller ist - oft steht auf einem Board kein deutlicher Name drauf. Und hast Du schießlich rausgekriegt, wo der Hersteller in Taiwan steckt, dann heißt das noch lange nicht, daß Du auf seiner Webseite auch Erklärungen für BIOS-Updates kriegst! Es ist also nötig, auch jenseits von Hersteller-Infos ein Gespür dafür zu kriegen, wann ein BIOS verdächtig ist PC-Probleme, zu verursachen.
